Two-storey extension · rear extension · loft · full renovation
60 Wavendon Avenue
Wraparound extension · loft conversion · full renovation
These two Chiswick projects each had their own architecture, construction challenges and design brief, but shared the same objective: to transform existing family houses into significantly larger, brighter and more functional homes.
Our work included major structural alterations, new foundations, extensive steelwork, loft conversions, new building services, large-format glazing and comprehensive internal refurbishment.
Sutton Lane South was completed first, and the success of that project directly led to our subsequent appointment at Wavendon Avenue.
60 Wavendon Avenue
A substantial wraparound extension, loft conversion and complete refurbishment of an existing Chiswick family home.
The ground-floor footprint was dramatically increased to create a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and entertaining environment with a much stronger relationship to the rear garden.
Extensive structural intervention was required, including new foundations, underpinning, major steelwork and substantial openings through the original structure.
Large-format glazing and rooflights brought significant natural light into the new plan, while the upper floors and loft were comprehensively reconfigured to improve bedroom and bathroom accommodation.
57 Sutton Lane South
A two-storey side extension, rear extension, loft conversion and complete refurbishment of the existing family home.
The internal layout was comprehensively remodelled around a much larger open-plan kitchen, dining and entertaining environment at ground-floor level.
The two-storey addition and loft conversion substantially increased the accommodation above while major structural openings transformed the relationship between the original house and the new extensions.
Extensive foundations and structural steelwork were required throughout the project.
A particular architectural feature was the bespoke freestanding spiral staircase, fabricated from laser-cut steel and finished with engineered timber.
Major residential work requires more than additional floor area.
On substantial residential projects, the challenge is coordinating structural alterations, temporary works, glazing, building services, specialist finishes, neighbours, suppliers and programme dependencies as one integrated construction operation.
